CALL FOR ENTRIES
Deadline: 1:00 pm, Sept. 27, 2008
Sponsored by: First Keystone Bank

Professional and Amateur photographers from around the greater Media and Philadelphia area are invited to submit photography focusing on the “ICONS” of Media, PA. Loosely translated, images submitted should depict subject matter that “resides in or originated from the Borough of Media.” Works submitted should provide a “2nd Look” or an insight into something unusual about the town that might not be noticed upon a first impression of Media. Subject matter could include any form of photographic expression as long as the subject was in Media at the time. Categories might include: people, places, things, village life, still life, landscapes – urban or natural, the seasons – just to name a few. Juror-selected works will be eligible for cash prizes up to $300 as well as entered into the October 2nd Saturday Media ICONS Photo Exhibit hosted by the Media Arts Council.

Purpose
- To support and promote photographers and art photography in the greater Media area.
- To promote the character of Media found only through the art of photography.
- To create an opportunity for local artists to exhibit their work to the local community.
- Increase cultural development in the community through art competition and exhibits.
Focus
Gather Professional and Amateur photographers from around the greater Media area to submit photography focusing on distinctly “Media, PA” related imagery.
Subject Matter
Imagery should depict subject matter that “resides in or originated from the Borough of Media.” Works submitted should provide a “2nd Look” or an insight into something unusual about the town that might not be noticed upon a first impression of Media. Subject matter could include any form of artistic expression as long as the subject was in Media. Categories might include: people, village life, still life, landscapes – urban or natural, the seasons, and nightlife – just to name a few. Because the works will be selected by a juror not from Media, all images will be judged solely on their artistic and technical merit not on how well it identifies Media through subject matter alone.
Eligibility
Photography first produced between January 1, 2001 and September 26, 2008 is eligible for entry. Entries (or photographers) may originate from any location but should depict subject matter from Media. A brief description should accompany each submission to describe the subject matter and its relationship to the Media community (see Form B below.) Special consideration will be given to those unique images that not only exemplify good photography, but also depict a view point of Media that is unique to our town or community.
A $25 entrance fee will be required for each photographer. Please make check payable to the Media Arts Council and have this check available at time of drop-off.
Preparation of Entries
Up to THREE (3) entries may be submitted. Each framed photograph is considered a single entry. While you may enter photographs as a series, images will be judged only individually and not as a series. Please do not submit more than one image in each framed submission. Digitally altered photography may be submitted, however, the final product must look like it was “taken” using some photographic method.
All photographs must be submitted framed as intended for final display in the Media ICONS photo exhibit. No framed submissions may be larger than 24" x 36." Appropriate matting, backing, and hanging mechanisms should be of professional quality. The Media Arts Council is not responsible for framing or adjustments to poorly framed art. All submissions, if awarded, will be installed “as is.”
In addition to framed submissions, please provide a high resolution digital version of each submission on CD (saved as 300dpi at 6" on the shortest side.)
All framed art will be returned to the artist and made available for pick up. All digital submissions will be held on file for use in online galleries of juror-selected works. The Media Arts Council is not responsible for damage or loss of any entry.
Usage Rights of Submissions
All entrants grant the Media Arts Council the right to reproduce work selected in the promotional endeavors of the Media Arts Council when specifically promoting the arts and culture of Media, PA. No works will be used in a for-profit endeavor without the written or verbal consent from the artist.
