In January, MAC will host regional artist Wayne Brown who has been an active artist for more than 50 years, since his high school days at Penn Charter. This exhibit will feature: paintings, wall sculptures and prints.
Brown is an independent thinker who approaches art knowing it takes thought, discerning skill and a fair amount of sweat to create a work that truly reflects his thinking. His process is to first concentrate on composition; then, thru trial and error, get the colors he wants, working until he is satisfied.
His early painting were primarily in oils, but now he works in acrylics. In recent years, he has been focusing on representational and abstract paintings, and wall sculptures. Brown is inspired by landscapes, cityscapes, florals, portraits and musical interpretations. Some favorites are composers are Mahler, Shostakovich, Wagner, Stravinsky – jazz also. He is a big fan of the Philadelphia Orchestra and grand opera.
Brown’s training was at PAFA, Tyler, Universtiy of the Arts, Chautauqua, and several art centers. He is a member the Community Arts Center’s abstract workshop, where this collegial group gives friendly criticism. His wife Elisabeth Jonnson Brown, a weaver/designer, is a big support.
Brown’s works are in Hedgerow Theatre, Delaware County Community College, Valley Forge Towers and many private collections.
The Media Arts Council is thrilled to have this skilled and beloved artist as their January guest artist.
