Berrie has been an artist all her life, beginning in grade school and continuing through high school with all A’s in Art class. She studied at Syracuse University earning her BFA and also attended classes at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (Philadelphia University). Pursuing her desire to work with children, Berrie returned to school, earned a masters degree in Information Studies (Library Science) at Drexel University, and then fostered a love of books as a librarian at Westtown School, Kohelet Yeshiva High School, and The Agnes Irwin School.
In addition to freelance work, and raising a family, she developed curriculum and taught art classes for Makin’ Music. She was a selected participant in the Highlights Foundation – Super Boot Camp for Writers and Illustrators for her story – “Bo Peep, Spot and the Bebop Sheep” and has written and illustrated her own books as well as books for private clients.
Berrie draws much of her inspiration from classic fairy tales and nursery rhymes. She particularly admires the art of Wayne Thiebaud and illustrators- Allan and Janet Ahlberg, Helen Oxenbury, and Kevin Henkes.
