MEDBURG: 50th Anniversary of the FBI Burglary in Media – Film and Interview
Before Watergate, there was the Media burglary.
Film Showing and Fireside Chat
September 1 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Overview: This year marks the 50th anniversary of the burglary of the FBI Resident Agency in Media, PA. The 1971 burglary exposed illegal surveillance of American citizens, including non-violent anti-Vietnam protesters, and civil rights groups. It brought to the public’s attention the existence of the now-infamous COINTELPRO operation directed by J. Edgar Hoover. The FBI’s investigation of the burglary, named MEDBURG, was never solved.
On September 1st, Media Borough will be installing a Pennsylvania Historical Marker in front of the old FBI office on Veterans’ Square to commemorate what the burglars uncovered. The events proposed below will coincide with the unveiling of the historical marker. Those involved with the burglary, including the Washington Post reporter who broke the story, are willing to be a part of this event.
