Our Bastille Day celebration is now less than two weeks away! Please plan on joining us on State Street on Saturday, July 14th starting at 6:00pm. We’ll be celebrating independence, art, and community spirit well into the night and we hope to see you there! This is a free, family-friendly event.
Bastille Day is the most exciting 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll of the year, where State Street will be closed to traffic and transformed into an arts-filled scene from history, featuring professional theater presentations, visual art demonstrations, live music and dancing, children’s activities and crafts, and al fresco dining. The event will feature a reenactment of the storming of the Bastille by the Hedgerow Theater. This event is an exciting, interactive historical performance.
Dance instructor Vince Masciarelli will help participants get ready for an evening of live music and dancing with Zydeco dance lessons. Join us to dance along the trolley tracks on State Street.
The Main Stage musical feature is Zydeco-a-Go-Go, the Mid-Atlantic’s premiere Zydeco band, known for bringing audiences to their feet to dance to their lively beat. Their music is comprised of the classic Zydeco sound of the accordion and frattoir (rubboard) augmented by saxophone, electric guitar, electric bass and drums. Their performances feature lyrics sung in English, Spanish, Cajun and Creole French, set to a beat that keeps people dancing all night long.
Local artists, businesses, and community partners participate to bring many other engaging attractions and activities to the even, including:
- Additional music by The Lost Northern Tribe and The Azure Wheel
- Ballet performances
- “Aristocats” Cat Show by the SPCA
- Fair Trade Awards
- Plein Air Painters
- Strolling musicians
- Make Your Own Tie Dye T-shirt
