March 2019 Exhibition: Life Abstraction

Caitlin McMahon 2nd Saturday Archive, Exhibit News

Local artists Megan Dennis Elliott and Cheryl Schlenker join forces to present “Life Abstraction” opening March 8, 2019 at the MAC Gallery. Both artists are painters using color and texture with acrylic paint and mixed media to portray actual life experiences and everyday subject matter. Their paintings present images that range from the representational to abstract, and from contemporary to traditional.  Together their work transports the viewer to a world that is both familiar and relatable, but just a little different from the everyday life we are accustomed to.

Cheryl Schlenker is an award-winning artist and past president of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. She earned a BS in Design from the University of Michigan, and an M.Ed. from Temple University. She has been a Peace Corps Volunteer, a reading teacher, and has lived in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. She enjoys mixing various media to enhance the differing properties of each, and likes to find the surprising colors and contrasts that exist in everyday subject matter.

Megan Dennis Elliott is an artist living and working in Media, Pennsylvania. With a fashion and textile design background, Megan’s work is full of moody color, abstract figures, surface texture and strives to showcase the power of beauty through painting. She earned her BS from University of Delaware and M. Ed. at Arcadia University.  She has studied internationally at Central Saint Martins in London in 2008 and was a visiting artist at Parsons Paris for critique studies in 2011. Megan currently teaches at Delaware County Community College.
