The Media Environmental Advisory Council (EAC), Transition Town Media (TTM), Media Arts Council (MAC), Main Line Health, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, and Friends of Glen Providence Park have teamed up to bring residents of Media and neighboring towns a new, family-friendly event that’s destined to become an annual tradition—Media Open Streets!
On Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 9am to 2pm, Jackson Street from 252 to 3rd Street, 3rd Street from Jackson to West Street, down West to Glen Providence Park (See map) will be closed to motorized vehicles so Media friends and family can come out and play in the streets! Anything non-motorized is allowed—bicycles, strollers, wheelchairs, skateboards, roller skates, or just your own two feet! Music, vendors, information tables, and fun activities such as plein-air painters, Zumba, salsa, and yoga classes, children’s art activities and music will line the route and The Media Theatre will put on a short performance at Glen Providence Park.
Building on the national Open Streets movement, which includes PA cities such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the goal of the event is to transform our streets into a safe environment for physical activity and learning – and a chance to get to know your neighbors better. Come and experience the fun of strolling or biking the streets of Media for a few hours without cars—it’s healthy fun for the whole family.
Rain date: Sunday, September 30, 2018
