PhotoEx Juried Photography Exhibit 2021

The 15th Annual Media Arts Council Juried Photography Exhibition (PhotoEx) is open to amateur and professional photographers nationwide.

2021 Theme: “Balance” 

What does the concept of “Balance” mean to you? Use your own unique interpretation in your photographic submissions. The juror will consider good composition and photographic technique, as well as interesting, unusual subject matter, and interpretation of the theme.

Submission Deadline:
All entries must be received by 11:59 pm on Saturday August 21, 2021, through the online Entry Form below.

Cash Awards:

  • One First Place Award of $300

  • One Second Place Award of $200

  • One Third Place Award of $100

  • One Honorable Mention Award of $50

  • Michael J. Berman Award – TBD

Exhibit: 

  • All accepted works will be included in the exclusively Online PhotoEx 2021 Exhibit, which will run through Saturday, November 13, 2021.

  • The Online Opening Reception will be held via Zoom on Saturday October 9, 2021. (Unless otherwise notified.)

  • Awards will be announced during the Online Opening Reception. Checks will be sent via postal mail afterwards.

Juror: Owen Biddle  

Owen was born and educated outside of Philadelphia, and grew up in a household where color, art and design were intrinsically important. As a young man he worked in the audio-visual department at Elwyn Institute, taking pictures of students’ lives. It was there that he discovered what would become his lifelong passion for photography. Since 1983 Owen has been a photography instructor at a number of locations including Main Line Center for the Arts and Main Line School Night. For the last ten years he has provided photography lessons, field trips and workshops through his own small photography school in Lansdowne, PA.  https://www.biddlephotoschool.com

Notification Of Acceptance

  • Entrants will be notified via email of their acceptance into the exhibit on or about September 1, 2021.
  • Preparation of Accepted Works for Exhibit: This is an Online Virtual event. No physical artwork is required to prepare.

Steps to Follow for Submission

Step 1

Prepare Your Files

  • Create Jpeg Files of Your Images: at highest quality, 300 ppi, 1800 pixels in longest dimension.
  • Do NOT embed any information on the image file itself, such as name, copyright, logo, etc., to assure blind judging.
  • Label Each Image File: “Last Name_First Name_PhotoTitle_Price” i.e. “Doe_John_Landscape-in-Rome_500.jpg”
  • Read all “Terms and Conditions” below. In submitting, you will be agreeing to them all.

Complete the Form and Upload Images

Terms and Conditions

By submitting the Photography Exhibit Entry Form, you agree that:

    You accept all the terms and conditions of this Call for Entry document.
    Images accepted into previous PhotoEx, or Media ICONS, exhibits are not permitted. Media Arts Council board members, employees, and their family members may enter the competition and be accepted for exhibit, but will not be eligible to be judged for awards and prizes.
    The images submitted are your own work and that there is no copyright infringement. M.A.C. will not be held liable for any infringement of rights that might arise in connection with the jurying, displaying, or sale of any image.
    Sales and Commission:
    Media Arts Council will handle all sales of the artwork. MAC will retain a 40% commission on all works sold during the exhibit period, regardless of how sale originated – whether at gallery or the MAC website, artist’s website, private transaction, or any other means.
    Usage Rights of Submissions:
    All artists maintain copyright on their images. All entrants grant the Media Arts Council the right to reproduce submitted work in the promotional endeavors of the Media Arts Council when specifically promoting the arts and culture of Media, PA. Such promotion could include: calls for entry, the M.A.C. website, online exhibits, printed catalogs, or other M.A.C. programs without further contact or compensation. No works will be used in a for-profit endeavor without the written consent of the artist. Payment

Once you have submitted your Form and Images, please pay for the number of works you have entered.

  • Select your payment amount: $35 for 1-3 images, $40 for 4 images, $45 for 5 images
  • Enter the Name of the Photographer
  • Click “Pay Now”
  • You will be redirected to a secure PayPal payment page to log in to your account.
  • NOTE: Submission fees are non-refundable.
