About the Featured Poet:
Clinton Smith: In this workshop, we will look at how poetry can bring light to our closest relationships (with our best friends, our life partners/spouses, our parents) how they are built and sometimes become undone. Describing in poetry, we will focus on the everyday details of life with others as a path to expressing our affinity (or, sometimes, division) with those we are close to. For inspiration, we will read poems by poets such as Ruth Stone and Jack Gilbert, then write our own poetry to work on together. Recently published “Resettlement” by Finishing Line Press. A review of the book states:
“With deepest empathy and skill, Clinton Smith engages a multitude of voices, from that of a young man, to his cancer, to his aged mother remembering the details of giving birth. This multipart poem excavates both lost and new tongues that speak a more truthful rendition of this world.” – Lake Angela
