MAC Jazz After Class: Composition and performance Vol. 2

$450 for 10-Week Class. Scholarships Available. MAC members save $50 on tuition
Students Will Learn:
•How to compose an original song
•Critical listening skills and transcription
•How to improvise on an original song
•How chords and scales work together
Dive into music composition for small jazz ensemble, no music notation experience required! While experimenting with various approaches to writing music, students will focus on writing original music for the Spring 2024 session of Jazz After Class. Each week will begin with playing, studying and listening to well-known jazz compositions as well as reviewing music theory and practicing chords and scales; giving students the tools to create their own music.

About the instructors:
Jake Kelberman is a Philadelphia-based guitarist and much sought after performer and private instructor. He is also professor of jazz guitar and small ensemble director at Temple’s Boyer School of Music in Philadelphia
João Bueno is a pianist, composer and arranger from Campinas, Brazil currently residing in Philadelphia.
James Diaz is a Columbian-born composer currently living and working in Philadelphia
