Part of the Poetry Nights At The MAC series!
April Workshop Description:
The April writing workshop will focus on parents – being one and/or having them. We will read poems about parenting, as well as poems written by authors about their parents. We will use prompts based from those poems to inspire spontaneous writing about our own parenting or childhood experiences. We will write some specifically about Mom - keeping in mind Mother’s Day is three weeks from the workshop date and might possibly make a nice gift for a mom (or mother figure) you love.
Bio:
Kelly recently led a poetry and memoir writing workshop at MAC and is looking forward to working with MAC again as coordinator of this monthly poetry series. Kelly has been writing poetry and journaling since age 14. She was recently published in the collection “The Weight of Motherhood” by Moonstone Press. The poems in this book share not only the beauty of motherhood, but also many of the hard truths that challenge us as parents. Currently, she is in the last phase of writing a collection of 52 poems with accompanying drawings entitled, “In the Galaxy Tree: A Journey of Reclaiming Creativity and Uncovering Peace.” She has written, copyrighted and self-published a poetry chapbook entitled, “The Divine Chaotic Journey.” She has also written the children’s book, “Lion Journey” and is working on its illustrations. Kelly believes writing about your life can be healing and can shift the power from passive memory to empowered creation; writing from life transforms experiences into art.
