Elizabeth Breakell and Carol Wade: Refuge
Everyone needs to take refuge from time to time, and take a break from our harsh world. Carol and Elizabeth both find refuge in nature and in painting nature. This show represents two different approaches in painting.
For Carol Wade, it is nature magnified. The compostion, color, form and patterns are central, and often abstract. Carol’s acrylic paintings are bold and graphic. Some may also include “mixed media”, containing adhered sheet music or sections of pages from books.
For Elizabeth, the views are more distant and soft, inspired by light, reflections and shadows. This is shown in her water and landscapes. She also puts an emphasis on composition and paints in a more traditional style.
Both artists rely on references from their own photography.
