French flute music is a very
particular compositional style, which
exemplifies the flute’s lyrical capabilities
above all else. This concept came to light in
Paris around the 1860’s and emphasized the
flute’s “richer and more vivid palette of tone
colors and sonorities."
This style, which “pioneered a new
expressiveness of tone and sensitivity of
musicianship” has since become a typical
standard to flute around the world. This modern flute sound is in great contrast to previous styles of flute composition and pedagogy, borne out of
many coinciding influences which would result in the re-definition of flute music that we know today."
